Community Resilience
NUI Guinea

Boffa, a coastal town in Guinea, is home to a village that long faced severe challenges with access to clean water. The community's water sources were contaminated with salt from the ocean and bacteria from decomposing animals. With no clean water nearby, people had to walk long distances to collect it, a task most often left to women and young girls.
The lack of proper filtration made clean, safe water a rare commodity. This scarcity did not just disrupt daily life, it posed serious health risks, especially for children and other vulnerable members of the community.
Clean water is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of public health.
In partnership with the Basse Cote Community of the Guinean Association in Atlanta, GA, NoirUnited International built a well that now provides a reliable source of clean water for the village. We manually drilled a borehole to tap into natural underground resources and fitted it with proper filtration, bringing safe water to over 400 people in Boffa.
Beyond the well itself, we built local capacity for manual drilling work by providing tools and training, and raised awareness of the environmental and climate-related issues that can contaminate water sources or worsen scarcity.
